Overview
As Counsel in Parker McCay’s Labor and Employment Department, Amy Guerin helps both public and private sector clients confidently navigate the evolving and complex world of labor and employment law. Her practice covers topics as diverse as labor contracts, wage and hour matters, workplace grievances, discrimination and harassment investigations, leaves of absence, FMLA administration and abuse, ADA accommodations, employee discipline, and a myriad of related issues. Amy tends to closely identify with her clients, making her a passionate advocate – especially when adversaries get involved. But her strength as an attorney lies in her ability to counsel clients through difficult matters in order to avoid litigation in the first place.
Complimenting her career in labor and employment is Amy’s experience with public schools and municipalities. She currently serves as solicitor or special counsel to several boards of education and labor counsel to a number of municipalities, including civil service jurisdictions. Through this work, Amy has encountered and successfully navigated an evolving workplace including but not limited to changes to overtime laws and the applicability of New Jersey’s Workplace Democracy Enhancement Act (WDEA). Amy routinely represents schools and municipalities before various judicial and administrative bodies, has conducted countless internal investigations, defended employee disciplinary actions, and advised on Constitutional issues.
One of Amy’s greatest passions is supporting the nonprofit sector, drawing on her nearly 20-years of law practice to provide legal services to charitable organizations of all sizes. Amy understand the unique challenges nonprofits face, and offers cost-effective, mission-driven, and budget conscious counsel. She delivers practical, compliant, and cost-saving solutions in areas such as:
- Compliance
- Employment and volunteer issues
- Hiring and firing
- Investigations and resolutions
In her free time, Amy stays active volunteering with non-profit organizations such as the Greater Philadelphia YMCA on their Southern New Jersey Development Advisory Board and as a Board Member on the Burlington County Library System Foundation. Originally from Chicago, Amy now resides in Westampton, New Jersey with her husband and daughter.
